Opening of Hervey Bay’s new Accident and Emergency ward.
The Hervey Bay Hospital’s new Accident and Emergency ward opened yesterday at 7.00am.
I had the privilege of a walk through with WBHHS staff, the day before it was opened. It’s a real game changer for Hervey Bay and when my LNP team were in government, we made sure the new A&E ward was to be delivered for Hervey Bay.
It took some prodding, but it’s here. There were many people who were invited to provide input into the design such as the Ambulances officer and nurses, and those efforts and ideas were very noticeable when walking through. So congratulations to everyone.
Innovation, creativity, wrapped up in latest technologies and common sense practicalities in nursing and patient care was prevalent throughout the entire unit. To make life easier there are designated computers at each emergency bay for immediate up-to-date record keeping. There is also a room for consultation to Brisbane specialists, where you can actually put a specialist in the room so they can see in real time what is going on with the patient.
Triage processes are well considered from acute care, to moderate care. There is more to be done to finish. Be rest assured I will be writing to the Minister for Health Mr Stephen Miles to make sure it happens – he best get the cheque book ready..!
