If Labor dumps the wait time guarantee for surgery – what is its plan to get the numbers down?

Under the LNP Government the growth in the waiting list for the waiting list was reduced for the first time.  In March 2006 there were 122,120 Queenslanders on the “hidden” waiting list for a specialist appointment. This was a list Labor had kept hidden.

Under Labor the number of Queenslanders waiting for a specialist appointment actually increased by 90%.

In fact the Labor Premier and Health Minister were aware there were even people placed on lists, where on the patient referrals was written ‘predicted time for SOPD appointment: NEVER’.

On coming to Government in March 2012 the LNP inherited a waiting list for the waiting list of 232,043 Queenslanders.

How did the LNP stop the growth in the list? By providing more specialist appointments to Queenslanders. Under the LNP we have increased the number of appointments made available to Queenslanders to 4,443,415.  That’s 345,900 more appointments [or an 8.4% increase] compared to the number in Labor’s last full year [2010-11].
