Thanks to Hana and the whole team at Drop Bears Adventures for their continued support of Fraser Island.

Drop Bear Adventures Tour Operator cleans up the beach on K’gari – Fraser Island after being inspired by Prince Harry’s heartfelt speech during his visit to the island last week.

Drop Bear Adventures, Tour Company owned by locals Hana & Mark sprung into action after being inspired by Prince Harry’s heartfelt speech at Central Station Rainforest last week. This dedicated duo has gone from strength to strength after starting their tour business just 7 years ago and they say this success is all down to “the respect we demonstrate for our precious environment and dedication to great customer service.” They are by no means the biggest tour company on the island but they pride themselves on continuously working towards being the best.

With a small team of just 39 volunteers they collected 408kg of rubbish in just 4 hours! This included 2480 plastic bags, 10,000 micro plastics (smaller than a 50c piece), 754 plastic bottle lids and 2122 hard plastic pieces (large than a 50c). Volunteers were shocked by the amount of plastic waste they collected but for Hana and Mark this is no surprise. “Fraser Island’s 75 mile beach is continuously littered with rubbish, some of this is from lazy visitors but sadly a lot more of it is just washing up on our shores, especially around big tides.”

After such a successful weekend, Hana & Mark and their team of eco-warriors are already on to planning their next Beach Clean-Up event, for October 2019.
