Young Australians of the Year

Australian Of The Year Nominations

by Ted Sorensen

Each year we have the opportunity to bring our attention to the remarkable individuals of our State who excel in the core values we see as being Australian.

It is up to us to ensure the work they do does not go unnoticed. In 2016, we witnessed two young Queensland men who had a goal to improve the lives of the homeless by running a free mobile laundry become the recipients of the national Young Australian of the Year Award.

The recognition of these two social entrepreneurs, Mr Lucas Patchett and Mr Nicholas Marchesi, started with a member of the public nominating them in the Australian of the Year Awards.
Why not nominate an outstanding Queenslander whose work should be celebrated?

Nominations can be made across four categories:
* Queensland Australian of the Year
* Queensland Senior Australian of the Year
* Queensland Young Australian o f the Year
* Queensland’s Local Hero.

Nominations are open until Sunday 7 August 2016, with Queensland recipients announced in November this year. These recipients will then represent our State at the national awards
ceremony held on the eve of 2017 Australia Day in Canberra.
