There has been some discussion regarding the ABC’s Four Corners program on Monday and allegations surrounding the Adani Group in India.
I note the allegations aired on the ABC program were allegations related to activities in India, not Australia.
I also note that the Adani company has strongly refuted all allegations.
Australia does have some of the strictest environmental protection laws in the world that apply to resource projects, with State and Federal Departments to independently oversee strict compliance to those laws.
The Adani Carmichael mine will be subject to strict monitoring throughout the construction process and during operations.
The LNP supports the Carmichael mine proceeding because the project has passed a lengthy and exhaustive environmental approval process at both State and Federal level.
The project promises to create up to 10,000 jobs – jobs that are desperately needed in Central Queensland and beyond.
In Queensland, the Adani project will be subject to 220 strict environmental conditions. Should any of these conditions be breached, the State Minister for the Environment has the power to suspend operations.
The LNP supports the project proceeding and is confident that our strict environmental conditions will be met and moreover the company will pay the royalties to the State and taxes to the Federal Government to help pay for roads, schools, and hospitals we need.
